A Random Roundup
Since I've been out of commission for a while dealing with my RL issues, here's a grab bag of things I've meant to comment on.
First off, congratulations to the Carolina Hurricanes! It went to seven games and was incredibly nervewracking, but the 'Canes pulled it off to win the Stanley Cup bringing the first professional national championship to the state in the process. They showed a lot of heart and Cam Ward was amazing.
Secondly, I did manage to get a couple of books read in the past few weeks. #56 is The Nameless Day by Sara Douglass. This is the first of a trilogy set in the medieval period during the era of Joan of Arc and the onset of the War of the Roses. It's categorized as fantasy because it is inherent to the premise of the story that angels and demons are real and are actively involved with trying to influence the affairs of humanity through chosen agents, but it reads like pure historical fiction. I'm always amazed at how deeply entrenched misogyny was in the attitudes of the Church and its prelates. I'm currently reading the second book and am finding the series very intriguing.
#57 is one of my favorite brain candy series. Twelve Sharp by Janet Evanovich. The further misadventures of Stephanie Plum. I've got one word for you. Ranger. :)
Thirdly, I'm sad to report that the Piranhas (my kids' swim team) tied in their last meet. So, it won't be another completely undefeated season. We have one more dual meet (tomorrow night) and then championships are weekend after next. We'll see what happens. The good news is that N has been doing quite well. She's a reluctant participant but she got two firsts and a second at her last meet.
Finally, because it's been forever since I've done one, a meme. ( What kind of English do I speak? )
The funny thing about this is that I was born and raised in the South, then went to college in New England, and then moved to the Upper Midwest before returning back to the South. Apparently my language usage reflects that journey. lol
