Snapshots of my life

It's November 14th and it's sunny and 78 degrees outside. Let me repeat that for you. *78 degrees*. That's just fundamentally wrong. It's November. It's supposed to be grey and overcast with a damp chill in the air that makes you want to wear cozy sweaters and eat comfort food. Not beautiful and in the upper 70s and shirtsleeves weather that makes you ponder last minute trips to the beach. My calendar tells me that Thanksgiving is next Thursday, but my body refuses to believe.

Is the weather wacky for everyone else as well? Unseasonably warm perhaps? Not to mention dry? We're under drought conditions here in central NC. I wasn't the world's best about regular car washes, but now at least I have "being environmentally aware" as a plausible excuse for the layers of sediment attaching themselves to my vehicle. :)

In other news, I ordered the last of the kids Christmas and/or birthday presents last night. (The boys both have December birthdays.) I may live up to my vow to have all my holiday shopping done by Thanksgiving. Online catalog shopping in the wee hours of the morning is a boon to the modern woman.

Maybe the drought will be over soon because it's raining here. I'm trying to send it your way because, well, rainy days and Mondays always get me down.

I haven't even started on my Christmas shopping unless window shopping counts. Malls after Thanksgiving - yuck!

I have bought ONE Christmas present - and that's uncommonly early for me. And I've got another picked out. But I'm in the musing over what to get people phase, mostly. Nothing really definitely planned yet for the most part. No shopping agenda ;)

I like to have all of the major shopping done early in the season so that I'm less stressed. Plus, with all of the December birthdays in my family (in addition to the boys, my sister and my mother-in-law) if things don't get done early, it gets insane quickly. I also enjoy trying to find just the right gift for everyone so it's fun for me to do. :)

Actually I do feel like it's uncommonly warm here. Mind you, it IS California... But I remember quite a few cold and rainy Halloweens. I remember quite a few disgustingly hot Halloweens as well. But today I wore a 3/4 sleeve polo to work, and I was hot and gross all day. And I went on a walk during my afternoon break and regretted it later. So yeah, it feels like LA here to me right now. And I want it colder, dammit. I did LA. I'm not there now, so would the world please stop acting like it? LOL!

Oh see Halloween was lovely here, and that is just wrong. It's supposed to be miserable and rainy and you're supposed to bitch all night about how your costume is pointless b/c you have to drag on your big ol' coat over top of it. xD

[identity profile] angela-o.livejournal.com 2005-11-15 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't mind a little cooler myself. Sleeveless tops in November screw up my internal clock. lol

Congratulations on the shopping accomplishment! Halifax was in fact the warmest place in Canada today. O_o It's very strange. Esp when you factor in that this day last year is when we got 50 cm of snow and ice!!!

[identity profile] angela-o.livejournal.com 2005-11-15 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'm trying to wrap my mind around Halifax being the warmest place in Canada. Is it because of the jet stream? Gotta love the contrast with last year though!

It's going to be in the upper 70s here again today, but then cooling off about 15 degrees by tomorrow.

Thank you for the congratulations. Like I told Anne and Jo, I actually enjoy trying to find just the right gift for everyone. So, it's fun for me to do and I like having the month of December just to bask in Christmas. It's about time I go look for your Christmas cds I believe. :)

Yes, those might get me in the mood finally - I actually have to have almost all my shopping done by the *beginning* of December in order to ship it to Ontario, and I haven't started yet. *whimpers*

I did see a new compilation Christmas CD at Starbucks, a pretty good mix, that made me think of you and that you might like it. :)

[identity profile] angela-o.livejournal.com 2005-11-16 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
I was actually in a Starbucks yesterday, which is a rarity, but I didn't get a chance to check out the compilation. I'll definitely make a point of doing that sometime in the near future. Plus, I'm going to check out the gingerbread latte. I've never been a coffee drinker, but I've seen rhapsodic paens to them that have made me curious. :)

I'm sending good shopping vibes your way. May the spirit of gift inspiration visit you very, very soon!

I can understand about the weather being wacky...over here, one day it's 17 degrees and then the next minute it is 4 degrees. The crazy thing is that last year, we already had snow in Ottawa at this time so I sort of miss complaining about the vast amounts of snow I see outside, *sighs*

Force, I haven't even started shopping for Christmas yet but I did start on my card list though. I'm getting there slowly...

[identity profile] angela-o.livejournal.com 2005-11-15 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
The yo-yo'ing of temperatures drives me a little crazy. You can't pack anything away because you're never sure what you're going to need. Arrgh.

You're ahead of me on the Christmas card front. I need to make my list and get a good group picture of the kids that I can have reprinted to send out with my card. I guess I need to start composing a Christmas letter as well. Hmmm. Thanks for reminding me Micha. :)

*waves*

So, I have a huge favor to ask of you. OKay, it's not like, money huge or loaning me a kidney, but it's stil a favor. (And I do appreciate your offer of catwatching services.)

We cannot find a lawn maintenance service to save our life. I mean, someone to cut the lawn and rake the leaves. That's it. Things are still a little hectic and TB's working 10-hour days and we don't own a lawnmower just yet. Every place we call says they don't cover this area.

The main problem is we have no local phonebook yet (and probably won't since we went with Vonage), so here's my favor: Do you have a current yellow pages, and would you be willing to look up lawn maintenance and shoot me a few phone numbers of places that seem to cover this area?

Or can you recommend someone?

My alternate plan is going to a library and checking out the phonebook there (bellsouth's online yellow page access just sucks), but we're down to one legal car at the moment (one of them had the sideview mirror broken off during transit).

Er, thanks in advance. You can email me at kieyra@gmail.com if you want to take this out of comments. :)

[identity profile] angela-o.livejournal.com 2005-11-16 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I do the raking myself, but I'll be happy to look in the yellow pages for you. I'll try to get to it in the next day or so.

[identity profile] kieyra.livejournal.com 2005-11-17 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
Well, the plan was for us to do it, too, we just ran out of time and things are totally out of control now. In the yard, I mean. :)

However, we evidently have someone, finally, who agreed to come out today and take a look. So hopefully it's taken care of. Thank you, though. :)

[identity profile] kieyra.livejournal.com 2005-11-16 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
So this isn't normal? It was really cold there (for me) for a bit, now it's back to "November in Florida" temps. I guess it will cool down tomorrow, allegedly.

Actually, I keep thinking of things to mention to you when I'm out and about, like "Hey, I noticed Harris Teeter *is* open till 2am" and that kind of thing, but I'm just now (today) getting a chance to actually LJ again. And Cheesecake Factory is open now (and SuperTarget!). And I think the combo TruValue Hardware/Pharmacy on 54 is hilarious. (That said, I've gone there multiple times now.)
