Most of these fall more into the "summer reading" category.  But, given that it's been over 100 for days now, summer reading is about the only thing that I'm in the mood to do.  Plus, as Friday was the kids' last day of school (Hallefreakinlujah!), it's officially summer reading time anyway.

Now, on to the books.

53. Midnight Champagne by A. Manette Ansay  This was an interesting little novel which wasn't as  predictable as I thought it would be.

54. Romiette and Julio by Sharon M. Draper  A  YA retelling of Romeo and Juliet using race as the cause of strife and without all the death.

55. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly by Jean-Dominique Bauby A remarkable memoir by a French journalist who suffered a stroke and was a victim of "locked in" syndrome.  His mind was completely unimpaired, but he had virtually no motor control.  He dictated the book by one arduous letter at a time and the grace of his writing shows both his skill as a writer and the courage with which he faced this unfathomable change.

56. Shadowland (The Mediator Series Book 1) by Meg Cabot Susannah Simon isn't like all the other girls because she sees dead people.  Including the 150 year old ghostly Spanish hottie who haunts her bedroom.  She's a mediator who helps spirits move on to whatever comes next.  But, in his case, she's willing to make an exception.  J loved these so I thought I'd give them a whirl.

57. The Ninth Key (The Mediator Series Book 2) by Meg Cabot  See above.

58. Reunion (The Mediator Series Book 3) by Meg Cabot  See above.

59.  Darkest Hour (The Mediator Series Book 4) by Meg Cabot  See above.

60. Haunted (The Mediator Series Book 5) by Meg Cabot  See above.

61. Having Justin’s Baby by Pamela Bauer  This was a Harlequin super romance that I picked up while sorting out of vaguely morbid curiosity.  I haven't read a Harlequin since junior high when I used to snag them out of my grandmother's stash and I thought I'd see if they'd changed at all.  And guess what?  They really haven't.  It wasn't awful, in fact, the characterization wasn't bad, but there are much better things to read out there.

62. Twilight (The Mediator Series Book 6) by Meg Cabot  Presumably the conclusion of the series with a tidy little resolution to Suze's biggest problem.  They were a fun read, but I prefer Cabot's Princess Diaries.

In other news, I'm happy to report that the Parkwood Piranhas had their first dual meet on Saturday against the team that beat us last year (the only team to beat us in the last five years) and we pulled off a win. I truly didn't expect it.  This means that the odds are good that we'll go undefeated again this year in dual meets.  Who knows about champs.  But, I'm going to focus on the good right now. :)

Speaking of good, I may have gone to see "Iron Man" a couple more times.  If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it and you should see it on the big screen.  Iron Man good.
