Idle ramblings
Dec. 11th, 2005 02:57 pmIt's hard to believe that Christmas is only two weeks away. On the plus side, I'm more or less done with all my holiday shopping. I still need to get some stocking stuffers, but the major shopping is done with the exception of J's gift which isn't released until this Tuesday. I even have all of E's birthday presents wrapped (he turns 14 on the 15th). Today I made the kids go out and help me rake the yard. It's frightening the number of leaves that can accumulate and there are still some on the trees that haven't fallen yet. But, things look better. So, I'm feeling slightly productive today which is better than slugdom.
What's weird about this Christmas season is that there really isn't anything that I want. I've had assorted family members ask me for gift ideas, but nothing is springing readily to mind. I'm at that stage of life where most of the things that I truly want and/or need I eventually get for myself and the things that I want that I haven't acquired are generally big ticket items that I can't ask for from anyone else. Sadly, some of the things that I do want are items for the house and for the kitchen specifically. If you'd told me when I got married that I'd ever accept household items as gifts for myself, I'd have been absolutely appalled not to mention incredibly offended. But, I've come to realize that things that make my life easier are truly gifts for me. Which means that I'll probably be getting a new microwave sometime this holiday season and the cool crock pot might be coming to live with me as well. It's funny how perspective changes as you get older.
