My Not-So-Interesting Life

My recent life can be summed up by meetings, more meetings, sick, and a few more meetings. On the plus side, I got to cashier at the Spring Friends of the Library Booksale this morning. Sadly, my haul was not up to previous standards. But, I may go help with cleanup on Monday and possibly Tuesday, which will give me additional opportunities to score some new books.

While we're on the subject, I have one more to add to my list.

#54 is The First Princess of Wales by Karen Harper (Apr07). This was a long novel dealing with the life of Joan, The Maid of Kent. It straddles the line somewhere between historical fiction and romance and while I think it might have played somewhat fast and loose with strict historical accuracy, I enjoyed it nonetheless. [livejournal.com profile] muffinkath7, I think you might enjoy it.

I've hit a bit of a slowdown with books lately. Anything that you've simply adored recently that you can recommend to me?

Finally, can I just say that having your 15 year old have his first real girlfriend is a very strange phenomenon? How did I get this old? When did it happen and why wasn't I paying attention?

Lights, camera, action!

#55 is Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl (Apr07). I got this one for Christmas from my sister-in-law as it was on the NYTimes Top 5 Fiction of 2006 list and it was a very intriguing and entertaining read. I may have to reread it soon so as to really watch the clues being planted. Lots of reviews make comparison to Donna Tartt for those of you who like her writing. I'd be curious to see what other reactions to it are. I thought the resolution was somewhat pat, but the sheer breadth of the undertaking and the narrative devices employed deserve recognition.
