I'm stealing a meme. This one comes via
mockingbird39
1. Name a movie that you have seen more than 10 times.
Off the top of my head, Say Anything, The Way We Were, The Sound of Music, various and sundry Disney movies from when my older two kids were young.
2. Name a movie that you've seen multiple times in the theater.
Purple Rain, Pirates of the Caribbean, Attack of the Clones, Independence Day, Last of the Mohicans.
3. Name an actor that would make you more inclined to see a movie.
Ryan Gosling, Paul Bettany, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, John Cusack
4. Name an actor that would make you less likely to see a movie.
Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson and did I mention Tom Cruise and John Travolta?
I'm drawing blanks on actresses for both these categories for whatever reason.
5. Name a movie that you can quote from.
Holy Grail, The Princess Bride, The Sound of Music
6. Name a movie musical that you know all the lyrics to all the songs.
I'm not a big musical buff, but I probably still know quite a lot of the songs from Phantom and The Sound of Music.
7. Name a movie that you have been known to sing along with.
The Sound of Music, various Disney films
8. Name a movie that you would recommend to everyone see.
Children of Men
9. Name a movie that you own.
Just a random pick? The Coca-Cola Kid
10. Name an actor that launched his/her entertainment career in another medium but who has surprised you with his/her acting chops.
Mark Walhberg
11. Have you ever seen a movie in a drive-in? If so, what?
Yes, but I haven't been to one since I was a kid so I don't remember a title.
12. Ever made out in a movie?
Yes.
13. Name a movie that you keep meaning to see but just haven't gotten around to it.
Flyboys maybe. Bride and Prejudice.
14. Ever walked out of a movie?
Yes. A film society screening of Last Tango in Paris. Fat, sweaty, old Brando and butter is not my idea of an appealing two-third of a menage a trois.
15. Name a movie that made you cry in the theater.
I cry in movies, so the list could be long. I remember going to see Terms of Endearment with friends who were somewhere between shocked and amused at the amount I cried.
16. Popcorn?
Not really. How about SweetTarts instead? Or maybe chocolate?
17. How often do you go to the movies (as opposed to renting them or watching them at home)?
Once every couple of months perhaps. It definitely goes in fits and starts.
18. What's the last movie you saw in the theater?
I'm almost ashamed to admit it. I saw Music and Lyrics a few weeks ago with a group of female friends.
19. What's your favorite/preferred genre of movie?
I like romance, romantic comedies, sci-fi, and various and sundry thriller/action films.
20. What's the first movie you remember seeing in the theater?
I think it was the Disney live action version of The Incredible Journey. Yes, I'm old. lol
21. What movie do you wish you had never seen?
The Andromeda Strain at age 8. It terrified me and I didn't voluntarily watch another scary movie for many years.
22. What is the weirdest movie you enjoyed?
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. I'd have to throw Diva out there as well.
23. What is the scariest movie you've seen?
Picnic at Hanging Rock. It simply quivers with opressive anxiety. That beats out Aliens and Angel Heart.
24. What is the funniest movie you've seen?
Holy Grail I guess. Although it's funnier to talk about than it is to actually watch.
#55 is Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl (Apr07). I got this one for Christmas from my sister-in-law as it was on the NYTimes Top 5 Fiction of 2006 list and it was a very intriguing and entertaining read. I may have to reread it soon so as to really watch the clues being planted. Lots of reviews make comparison to Donna Tartt for those of you who like her writing. I'd be curious to see what other reactions to it are. I thought the resolution was somewhat pat, but the sheer breadth of the undertaking and the narrative devices employed deserve recognition.
