The last Angel episode tonight. It's truly the end of an era. I've been a Whedoverse habitue since the first episode of Buffy and it's strange to think that it's almost over. Amazingly enough, I'm not broken up about the end. It's been a great ride, but all good things must truly come to an end.

ETA I'm on the far side of the episode now and found it quite satisfying. I loved the fact that they allowed each of the major characters time to revisit their essence. Angel spent time with his son. Gunn returned to helping on the street. Lorne sang. Wesley watched over a powerful girl. And, last, but most assuredly not least, Spike was a poet. I actually yelled at the screen when I heard the word "effulgent" and laughed out loud at the "can I deny you three times.". It was very nice to have some sweet with the bitter.

The ending was rough however. I was never particularly invested in the Wes/Fred relationship, but their scenes were truly poignant. My poor broken, beautiful Wesley. It wasn't a merciful death, but it was a mercy nonetheless. Plus, the allusion to St. George and the dragon (could it be the same one that escaped when Buffy did her swan dive off the tower?) was a grace note. I guess it's not whether you win or lose, but simply that you continue to fight.

To the Whedonverse. Partings are indeed sweet sorrows. Thanks for the memories.
