LOST

After being downright critical of the show for the past couple of weeks (phrases like "lost creative momentum" and "bored now" might have been employed, they managed to come up with a truly excellent episode last night. I didn't catch who the writer was for the ep. Does anyone know off the top of their heads?

Yes, I'm as shocked as the rest of you about that. lol Exodus was a *good* episode. Easily one of the strongest outings of the season. The flashbacks weren't obtrusive and served to make the characters more accessible and even occasionally sympathetic. The plotlines in the present actually moved forward. There were elements of humor which mixed in seamlessly. The character interactions (and requisite acting) were very well done. *And* I didn't actually root for Jack to die in a grisly fashion. I kind of liked him last night for what may be the first time since sometime last October. The scene between he and Sawyer was quite powerful.

Mind you, I could still live quite happily if Kate went to the big jungle island in the sky, but even she was less annoying last night. Nice job everyone. I'm even sort of looking forward to the finale last week. At this time last week, the thought that I'd say that was somewhere past improbable and well on the way to ludicrous.

ETA Because I'm sure you were dying to know. ;) Another two bringing us to a grand total of 18.

I thought the scene between Jack and Sawyer was amazing. Nice to see optimism from you, Angela! A bit odd ;-) but nice. :D

Now, Tas. I'm not always a naysayer. I prefer to think of it as being brutally honest. lol

It was written by Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, the same team that brought us "Deus Ex Machina."

And yeah, the Jack/Sawyer scene ruled. Very well done, and less melodramatic than I might have expected it to turn out. I found it interesting that Jack never explicitly thanked him. He just kind of cried and nodded his head a lot. But I think Sawyer got the picture.

Thanks for the writer information.

I totally agree with your assessment of the Jack/Sawyer scene. I think one of the reasons that it worked so well was that it was underplayed. That made the emotional resonace stronger and made it feel less overtly manipulative. I thought Sawyer's line about children and dogs was very telling. I think he surprised himself by volunteering such personal information.

Which line was that? I don't remember it.

I had to go back and doublecheck my videotape for the actual quote. It's "kids are like dogs. Knock 'em around enough and they'll think they did something to deserve it." I think he was mometarily chagrined to have given away any hint about his own past.

Oh, that. Huh. I didn't read that as being an indication of his own past, but hm. I thought he was just making a statement, and again, an interesting one because he was actually trying to make Jack feel better.
