A milestone day

Well, today I turned 40. It was fairly anticlimactic for such an iconic number. When I was a child I thought that 40 year olds would have life figured out. I've come to realize that as soon as you think you have life figured out, the questions change. I'll be interested to see what this decade brings. I've been told that it's the most productive of your life. Time will tell I suppose. I did get some cool gifts though. To go with my spiffy iPod, my sister-in-law gave me a JBL speaker set for them. Now I can subject everyone in the house to my music. lol A random sampling of some of my other gifts includes a variety of gift cards, some new shoes, a Dave Matthews live concert cd, the third season of La Femme Nikita, and the first of the Firefly comics. Plus, I've still got Dragon*Con this weekend and Coldplay on 9/10. I think that 40 is being appropriately celebrated. :)
The kids also started school today. Yes, the universe was giving me a gift as well. :) Everyone seemed to have a good day. N was very nervous about starting first grade. So much so that she was still awake at 11 last night, but the day went smoothly. It helps that her best friend is also in her class. M likes his 3rd grade class and E and J are 8th and 7th graders respectively. J was particularly happy about returning to school. I remember being bored by the end of summer and anxious for school to start as well. Fortunately the kids are all on the same campus this year. That should cut my driving time in half and with gas prices skyrocketing, that's definitely a good thing.
How did my birthday treat the rest of you? :)

Date: 2005-08-30 08:45 pm (UTC)Are you still considering getting a new job? Any likely prospects on the horizon?

Date: 2005-08-30 08:58 pm (UTC)Yes to both, actually. If I had to guess, I'd say I'll be moving back to Seattle and working where I used to. They're creating a new position, and it's one that they really want me for. I'll see what the job entails once it's actually posted, but it looks pretty promising.

Date: 2005-08-30 10:57 pm (UTC)It soulds like you had a good day, anticlimatic or not. And a lot of good future birthday presents coming! I can't wait to hear about Coldplay!! I missed them this year and am still sulking about it :(
Which live Dave CD did you get? My lil' brother's on a big Dave kick right now and I've been listening to a *lot* of live Dave as a result. Such good stuff there!

Date: 2005-08-31 06:40 pm (UTC)Sadly my Dragon*Con trip this weekend might be off. There are huge gas shortages in NC and the governor has asked people to restrict their noncritical driving. The same situation exists in GA. It would be really bad to get there and not be able to buy gas to drive home. *sigh*

Date: 2005-08-31 02:42 pm (UTC)Special congrats on the iPod speakers. I love mine. They drown out my roommate's country CDs quite well. And the shoes--always the shoes.
*sigh* Shoes.
