Details are here. I just got home a little while ago and it was a great show. They had reconfigured the seating a little so we ended up in the 8th row, about 30 feet from the stage. Rilo Kiley opened and played a very tight set. The lead singer has a very powerful voice and I liked their music. It will be interesting to see if they take off after the exposure from this tour.

Coldplay's set list for the concert was

1. Square One
2. Politik
3. Yellow
4. God Put A Smile Upon Your Face
5. Speed of Sound
6. Low
7. A Rush of Blood to the Head
8. Everything's Not Lost
9. White Shadows
10. The Scientist
11. Til Kingdom Come (acoustic)
12. Ring of Fire (acoustic)
13. Don't Panic
14. Happy Birthday (which the crowd sang along with as it's Johnny's birthday)
15. Clocks
16. Talk

The encore songs were
17. Swallowed in the Sea
18. In My Place
19. Fix You

For Yellow, they released giant yellow balloons into the crowd which were bounced around. There was a slight wind blowing so several of them ended up caught in a tree at the edge of the amphitheater. It reminded me of the kite eating tree from Charlie Brown. It wasn't homicidal enough to be the Whomping Willow.

Chris flubbed The Scientist at first as he started coughing. The drummer called him over and Chris said that when your drummer tells you that you've "fucked it up", you need to start over, which he then did. He said that's why Coldplay would never cut it on American Idol because you only get one chance. lol He was very self-deprecating and funny about it and said that we were due a .25 cent refund for the screwup.

During the encore, I turned around and instead of a sea of lighter flames, there was a sea of lit cell phones casting an almost phosphorescent blue glow over the crowd. It was a very striking sight. A sign of the changing technological times I suppose. Sadly, I didn't bring my camera as the tickets said they weren't allowed. But, since the band flashed a GET CAMERA READY message on the screen onstage, it wasn't meant to be strictly enforced. Even without photographic evidence, it was an amazing experience. You should definitely go see them if you get the chance.

Now, I think I should get to bed.

Night all. Sweet dreams. :)

Man, I'm jealous! It sounds like it was incredible! What a great playlist! I'm excited that you got one. *ponders making a new mix...*

I'm so glad you got to go and had a great time! *sighs happily for Angela*

I'm always happy to encourage new mixes. :)

Thanks for the happy sighs. I was doing them too.

It was terrific. I wasn't too taken with XY when I first listenend to it, but it's absolutely grown on me and the concert itself was an amazing experience. I'm still having happy flashbacks. :)

My sister and I were just saying that Coldplay is one of the big-name artists that we would both probably overpay to see live. I've heard that their shows are worthwhile. Glad it's giving you some lasting enjoyment!

I've also been listening to Rilo Kiley a bit, so I'm envious of that, too. Although it's generally a specific mood for me -- I call it my 'angry girl' music, whether or not that's actually appropriate. ;-)

I definitely paid more for this concert than I ever have for any other, but it was worth and as I've said, I've been milking the turning 40 thing for all its worth. lol

I can totally see Rilo Kiley as mood music. I'd just have a harder time quantifying the moood. lol

BTW, I've had much computer trauma over the past week, but I finally have a package ready to go out to you this week . . .

Ooh, I'm excited. I wasn't sure if you were still going to send them out and I didn't want to bug you about it. I was reading some Rose/Nine fic yesterday and thinking that it might be time to rewatch. :)

What's the countdown to the VM premiere? Is it the 27th? I haven't been seeking out spoilers so I've got my fingers crossed that Rob doesn't have a sophomore slump.

I think we're at 16 days or something. 9/28!!! I'm pretty spoiled, although I plan to go clean once the season starts. *g* I'm not focusing much on individual plot points, because I don't think you get a clear picture of this story and how the elements fit together until it shows up on screen. You know how it its -- try summarizing the plot of the show to a friend who doesn't watch it and they look at you like, "So, you're obsessing about teen soap operas, now?" I actually wouldn't encourage seeking out spoilers since they've mostly just given me more questions than answers.

So this is the only thing I'll say about the spoilers I've seen, and it's spec rather than spoiler. I am relatively confident that we're going to get another year of smart, intricate storytelling in which all the characters are gray but believable. I could be proved wrong, but the story seems to be headed in that direction.

As for my computer, I lost my harddrive, had to reformat back to factory state. Yes, I do have an external harddrive. No, I didn't have a recent backup. Yes, I am an IT professional. Yes, I did learn a valuable lesson. As I heard on a harddrive recovery piece on NPR this morning (second in a week, too late for me to have learned from it), they say that there are two kinds of people; those who currently have a regular backup routine and those who will have a regular backup routine. I am reformed.

Ah, sorry to hear about the computer woes. Is that the IT equivalent to the shoemaker's children being barefoot and the doctor's children being the last to be treated? ;) I must admit that of the two types of people that you mentioned, I'm sadly the latter. I should look into an external hardrive however. My desktop is about three years old and hard drive space is becoming an issue. Of course, I know nothing about what to look for. lol

Since I'm not going to seek out spoilers per se, tell me this please. Will my Logan-loving heart be broken this season? I'm trying not to be a 'shipper, but old habits are hard to break.

I totally agree with you that you can't get a true sense of how things will play out onscreen until you actually see it. I'm sure it will be an interesting season though. Even the not great episodes last season were better than most everything else on tv.

Heh. Yes, it's exactly the IT equivalent of those things. I don't know much about external hard drives - I basically just read a bunch of reviews online before I ordered one. The one thing I learned from them is that bigger is not always better. It seems that the 300 GB hard drives tend to be less stable than the 150 and 200 GB drives that have proved themselves over time. I am aware that my external hard drive could also fail, but I have a better shot now of keeping my important things.

As for Veronica Mars . . . I'll email you! :-)

Lol, that's cool about the camera sign and the screw-up. Those are the kinds of moments that make concerts unforgettable. :D Glad it was everything you'd hoped!

It really did humanize the entire experience and caused a sense of genuine connection with the audience. It truly did live up to my expectations and that certainly happens less frequently in life than one would like. lol

Glad it was a good show, Angela. I saw them this year (in a fabu small venue, which was awesome) and I really enjoyed it. I find that the heavier an artist is on instrumentals, the more I like them live.

Funny you should mention Rilo Kiley, too, because they're my new must-listen band. I heard one of their songs on a compilation CD a college friend sent me, and I loved it. I went and bought both More Adventurous and The Execution of All Things a while ago. Highly recommend both.

What was the size of the venue that you saw them in? I'm sure that changes the dynamics of the show greatly. I hadn't realized how much the group rests on Chris Martin. He's it vocally. It definitely increased my appreciation for his efforts.

Rilo Kiley was very entertaining. Although they seemed much more Austin than LA to me. Greg and I were both very amused by the song with the refrain of "talking leads to touching and touching leads to sex". :)

I think Avalon holds about 2000 max. It was packed for Coldplay, but it still felt really intimate. Their next concert here is much, much bigger and after having seen them at Avalon, I think I'll hold off for a couple of years.

Rilo Kiley amuses me also. My favorite current is "I Never" because the '50s du wop style makes me giggle. I also love "With Arms Oustretched" because I can't stop imagining them writing that song, then hearing the Creed one "With Arms Wide Open" and going, "Fuck! Now what are we going to call *our* song?"
