A twofer today. #31 is The Village Bride of Beverly Hills by Kavita Daswani. An intermittently charming, but ultimately slight look at an Indian bride in an arranged marriage and her attempts to fit into her new life in California.

#32 is a completely different change of pace. Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain. A brash and fascinating look at what goes on in the kitchens of all those name restaurants that you've heard of as told by the larger than life man who's lived his life in them and has the scars to prove it. This one is equal parts tell all and how to but is imbued with an overarching love of good food and its production. Great breezy conversational writing style and it made me hungry just to read it. French cooking. Mmmmm. I wouldn't want to be married to this guy, but he could cook for me anytime.

*hugs*

Ooh, Kavita Daswani is a favourite of mine. I read For Matrimonial Purposes and highly enjoyed that work. When reading The Village Bride of Beverly Hills, I kept getting the urge to read the book out loud to *certain* family members and telling them...see this so could happen if you people keep pushing the arrange marriage idea.

I'm going to check out Kitchen Confidential...it sounds deliciously interesting.

I thought of you as I was reading the Daswani Micha and wondered how relevant it was to your life. I can understand the desire to escape from that a bit better now.

Do try the Bourdain. I found it fascinating. :)
