Concert roundup
Sep. 11th, 2005 12:41 amDetails are here. I just got home a little while ago and it was a great show. They had reconfigured the seating a little so we ended up in the 8th row, about 30 feet from the stage. Rilo Kiley opened and played a very tight set. The lead singer has a very powerful voice and I liked their music. It will be interesting to see if they take off after the exposure from this tour.
Coldplay's set list for the concert was
1. Square One
2. Politik
3. Yellow
4. God Put A Smile Upon Your Face
5. Speed of Sound
6. Low
7. A Rush of Blood to the Head
8. Everything's Not Lost
9. White Shadows
10. The Scientist
11. Til Kingdom Come (acoustic)
12. Ring of Fire (acoustic)
13. Don't Panic
14. Happy Birthday (which the crowd sang along with as it's Johnny's birthday)
15. Clocks
16. Talk
The encore songs were
17. Swallowed in the Sea
18. In My Place
19. Fix You
For Yellow, they released giant yellow balloons into the crowd which were bounced around. There was a slight wind blowing so several of them ended up caught in a tree at the edge of the amphitheater. It reminded me of the kite eating tree from Charlie Brown. It wasn't homicidal enough to be the Whomping Willow.
Chris flubbed The Scientist at first as he started coughing. The drummer called him over and Chris said that when your drummer tells you that you've "fucked it up", you need to start over, which he then did. He said that's why Coldplay would never cut it on American Idol because you only get one chance. lol He was very self-deprecating and funny about it and said that we were due a .25 cent refund for the screwup.
During the encore, I turned around and instead of a sea of lighter flames, there was a sea of lit cell phones casting an almost phosphorescent blue glow over the crowd. It was a very striking sight. A sign of the changing technological times I suppose. Sadly, I didn't bring my camera as the tickets said they weren't allowed. But, since the band flashed a GET CAMERA READY message on the screen onstage, it wasn't meant to be strictly enforced. Even without photographic evidence, it was an amazing experience. You should definitely go see them if you get the chance.
Now, I think I should get to bed.
Night all. Sweet dreams. :)
