Not dead yet
Jul. 29th, 2008 10:18 pmAlthough I've certainly been quiet enough to lead to doubts I'm sure.
My summer has been busy and it's hard to believe that school starts back in just four short weeks. I'm definitely not ready for that to start again. Luckily, we do have another trip between now and then. We head to Wrightsville on the 9th for a week and the girls will go back to Portland with G's mom for a few days at the end of the trip. I'll fly out there on the 19th to fly back home with them on the 20th. Then J turns 15(!!*&!!) on the 24th and school begins on the 26th.
Let's see, what events have I failed to report on? The Parkwood Piranhas pulled out an undefeated season (one of the dual meets was won by only 5 points) and we won championships as well. So, that makes us six season champs. N turned out to be our best swimmer this summer. She placed in the top 20 in all three of her strokes (free, back, and fly) and was on the winning girls freestyle relay. J placed in breast and fly. E's aged up to 15-18's now and M was at the bottom of his age group. G's dad and sister came for one meet and his mom came for another which made for an unusual season. Once again our anniversary (21st this year) was celebrated at a Summer League related event. Last year our 20th was at a meet and this year it was at Swim League Night at the Bulls. Ah, well. At least there were fireworks. lol
Once season was over, I took J, M, and N and went to visit my family in Ga for a week. E's lifeguarding again this summer, so he stayed home with G. I got to see 4 out of 5 siblings and we had a belated celebration of N's birthday. She turned 9 on 7/12. It's hard to believe that my baby is 9 already. I also got to see De and her girls at the beach the day before we came home. We had a lovely visit that was much too short. Although I managed to get sunburned on my back *while* sitting under an umbrella. It takes skill.
Not much reading happening lately of the printed and bound variety lately although I do have a few books to add to my list eventually, but I have seen some movies. I ended up seeing "Iron Man" five times. In my defense, each time was with a different person/group. People wanted to see it and didn't want to go alone, so I went with them. I'm happy to say that it holds up to repeated viewings. I liked "Get Smart". We saw it with the entire family and it made everyone laugh. We also saw "Space Chimps", at an honest-to-goodness drive-in while down South, which was more amusing than I expected. And I was an old skool geek and went to see the new "X-Files" last weekend. I think that the show is better suited to the enforced intimacy of the small screen, but it was a lot of fun seeing Mulder and Scully together again. I may need to break out the dvds and relive some of the great episodes from the show. I'm going to try and make it to "The Dark Knight" later this week. That was playing on the other screen at the drive-in, but we had little kids with us so we couldn't watch that one. Alas.
I will now return to my grave silence. :)
