I took down the Christmas decorations yesterday and it was nearly as arduous a task as putting them up in the first place. For those of you who don't know, I'm a big Christmas person who buys ornaments to commemorate any trips that I take and collects ornaments of a variety of types, so, out of idle curiosity, I counted to see how many ornaments were on my tree this year. The final tally was....456. Not as impressive as the nearly 900 on the tree at the annual Christmas Day Open House we attended, but not inconsequential. Particularly when you have to carefully pack them all away.
I've decided that I need either a Tardis or Mary Poppin's carpetbag. Something that is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. Because, while my storage area for Christmas decorations and assorted accoutrement is finite, the things needed to be stored grows every year.
I didn't even get particularly melancholy this year as I was disassembling which is somewhat unusual for me. Perhaps because it's so unseasonably warm here and it doesn't feel at all like we're actually *in* the bleak midwinter.
Also, I finished my next book. #2 is Grave Sight by Charlaine Harris (Jan/07). I read this in bed last night and liked it, although I think I prefer the Sookie Stackhouse world. Although that may be because I prefer Eric the Nordic vampire. lol But, I liked it well enough that I will read the next one in the series when my hold comes in at the library.
Oh, I forgot to add. In a nice serendipitous twist, I found Christmas cards of this very icon in my after holiday shopping. I couldn't resist picking up a box for next year.
