First off, Happy belated Valentine's Day to my friendslist. I hope that there was much good chocolate to be had. I have a bag of dark chocolate Lindt Lindor balls that are calling my name even as I type. They have such alluring voices too. Must. Be. Strong.

I need to return some library books before my trip, so here's the latest before I forget it.

#23 is I'm Your Girl by J. J. Murray(Feb/O7). The premise of this book interested me in that it's a chick lit about the relationship between an African-American librarian in her mid-20's and a recently widowed white author in his early 30s, but it ended up glossing over too much. There were some humorous moments, particularly when the heroine is reading advance copies of novels for online review, but even at nearly 400 pages, it still felt "trifling" to quote her.

Now, for some thoughts about the current tv season. There may be spoilers, particularly for VM.
Since this is sweeps, shouldn't I be more excited about tv right now? I don't quite understand why I'm supposed to be still invested in Veronica as a sympathetic character. She's judgmental. Holds people accountable to different sets of standards. Doesn't seem to appreciate the irony that it's perfectly okay for her to break the law whenever she wants, but expects others to conform to more rigid expectations. And now I'm supposed to be onboard the Pizonica train? Um, only if there's a big old trainwreck involved with lots of gory mayhem. Not to mention that Logan, apparently having been brought to heel over the Madison fallout, is going to ask Veronica if it's okay before he goes out with Parker. Color me wildly unenthused. I don't want Veronica and Logan to be civil, platonic buddies. Plus, if Logan finds someone else who can make him moderately happy without all the crap, why would I ever believe that he'd still want Veronica? I'm to the point that I hope the show's put out of it's mercy at the end of this season. There's an enormous disconnect between the way that the creator perceives the titular character and what's being translated to the screen.

LOST? Meh, about sums it up. On a good day. Jack doesn't annoy quite so much when he isn't around Kate, but it's a minute distinction. JJ's shows always start out with such a bang and then just degenerate from there.

Studio 60? I find it entertaining more often than not and I certainly don't have the depths of vitriol for it that so many seem to, but I know that it's gone after this season and so just take it as it comes. Although I do have to say that adding Mark McKinney was a very smart move.

Gilmore Girls? Another show that I'm hoping is given the lethal injection. The thought of ever having to watch Luke and Lorelai together again romantically simply nauseates. Stay strong Alexis Bledel! Walk away when your current contract is finished! I don't know if I've ever rooted for two shows that I watched to be canceled before.

Grey's? I've never found McDreamy to be all that so most of the time the Der/Mer stuff doesn't move me. I'm also beginning to feel that Shonda might be moving perilously close to plot-recycling/parody territory. Now, if they give Alex more screentime, well that's a decision I can wholeheartedly support.

BSG? I still enjoy it, but I don't really think about it when it's not on. They've done terrible things to the characters of Lee and Kara. Plus, if they really do what's been hinted at, I'm not sure how the show is going to work. I will go out on a limb and say that I think that Gaeta is one of the remaining Cylons though.

Now, I'm going to give in to the siren call of chocolate. Mmmm.
